San Francisco Paratransit

Welcome to SF Paratransit, a service of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA).  SFMTA has been proudly providing paratransit services since 1978.

The mission of SF Paratransit is to provide van and taxi services to people with disabilities, unable to independently use public transit due to a disability or disabling health condition.  SF Paratransit provides complementary paratransit services for the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); SF Access is the ADA-required complimentary service.  SF Paratransit also provides premium paratransit services not required by the ADA: Paratransit Taxi, SFMTA Group Van, DAAS Group Van, DAAS Shopping Shuttle, and Shop-a-Round. 

Annually SF Paratransit performs nearly 800,000 passenger trips.  Nearly two-thirds of all trips are provided by our van operated services.  The remaining third of our trips are provided by taxicabs.  All vans used to provide SF Paratransit services are wheelchair accessible.  Additionally, over 100 San Francisco taxicabs are ramp equipped and able to accomodate wheelchair passengers who are unable to transfer out of a wheelchair.  Muni contracts with a “Pararansit Broker” to manage SF Paratransit.  The paratransit broker sub-contracts with van and taxi companies to provide paratransit services.  Many of our servive providers are small, locally owned and operated businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
