Benefits of Using Muni’s Fixed Route System and BART

On This Page
Since many paratransit riders use Muni and BART for many of their trips, we are
providing some limited information on San Francisco’s comprehensive system of accessible
fixed-route bus, light rail and commuter rail services.
Muni’s services have many benefits including:
- More than 80 bus, light rail, historic streetcar routes throughout the City and
County of San Francisco, with stops within two blocks of most addresses – including
service to Treasure Island and Daly City. Muni provides connections with other Bay
Area transit systems including BART, Caltrain, AC Transit, SamTrans and Golden Gate
Transit.
- Wheelchair-accessible buses, light rail vehicles and historic streetcars. Accessible
buses currently serve most bus lines and feature wheelchair lifts, kneelers, automated
stop announcements, and other features to make riding easier for seniors and disabled
passengers.
- Light rail accessibility at the four downtown, underground stations shared with
BART as well as at five additional Muni-only underground stations and at many designated
“at grade” stations. The historic F-line is fully accessible along The Embarcadero
and at designated stops on Market Street between The Embarcadero and Castro Street.
For more information on Muni Accessible Services call (415) 701-4485 or TTY (415) 701-4730.
- Discounted fares for seniors and persons with disabilities. Seniors (aged 65 and
over) with valid ID and disabled persons with a valid Regional Transit Connection
(RTC) Discount ID Card or other qualifying documentation are eligible for discounted
fares and monthly passes/stickers. For more information on how to apply for and
use an RTC card, please call the Muni RTC office located at 2630 Geary Boulevard
(between Presidio and Masonic Avenues) at (415) 923-6070. TTY (415) 351-3443.
